I have a working background in map design & cartography. After graduating from University College London with a MSc in Geographic and Geodetic Information Systems, I worked for 10 years in academia and private consultancy before specialising in freelance illustrated map design.
Since then I’ve worked on a variety of design projects. I’ve illustrated tourist maps and campus maps, visitor maps and signage as well as designing illustrated maps for editorial, publishing and business. I also accept private commissions and have designed illustrated maps for weddings, new homes and holidays/mementos.
Commissioning me can help you achieve your goals
Through my background and experience I know how to design an effective and visually appealing map.
I understand how important good illustrated map design is. It isn’t just about making something look pretty because to fulfil its purpose a map also needs to be useable. It should engage with its audience effectively no matter what it’s end purpose whether that’s for a tourist guide, visitor signage or for an editorial map.
Some people find maps difficult to navigate but my designs are approachable and visually appealing. The maps I create are bright and colourful and are ideal for marketing purposes because of their eye-catching design.
All the maps I design are well researched and rooted in cartographic reality with a large attention to detail.
For more information about how I work as an illustrated map designer please read my blog post: what to expect when you commission an illustrator. I wrote this post to help potential clients understand how I work by explaining the process from start to finish.
I am a member of the Association of Illustrators.

“Working with Bek is an absolute pleasure. Not only is Bek clearly talented but her communication is on point. She takes a lot of pride in her illustrations and wants nothing but the best for her clients. In our experience she has dealt with briefs from start, to draft, to amendments, to finish… on some occasions, to even more amendments where she was very understanding. A very professional illustrator that you can rely on to produce some high quality work along with easy communication. Thanks for all your help so far Bek. “
