The brief for the New Monks Park project was to design an illustrated map that emphasised the location and family friendly style of the housing development and adjoining Country Park. The new housing development map also needed to highlight the close proximity to places of interest such as Lancing beach, the South Downs National Park, Brighton and well as easy access to shopping and travel infrastructure.
One of the key features of New Monks Park is it’s proximity to the coast. As well as connecting to Lancing the coastal line (and the A27) are what links the nearby towns of Worthing, Shoreham-by-Sea and Brighton and the map needed to emphasise these links.
As some of the places of interest around the housing development are relatively far away geographically, I used a mixture of insets, icons and in-situ illustrations to highlight the key places and to help bring a feeling of closer proximity between the sometimes more distant places like Brighton, Shoreham-on-Sea and Gatwick whilst still emphasising the closer walkable places of interest like the beach, school and Lancing high street.
The new housing development map was designed to be used online, in print brochures, as an A1 poster and as a very large scale 3m x 2m hoarding display.
Similarly, the brief for the Shopwyke Lakes project was to design an illustrated map that emphasised the location and family friendly style of the housing development and adjoining lakeside/park. The map also needed to highlight the close proximity to Chichester, the coast as well as easy access to local shopping and travel infrastructure.
The Shopwyke Lakes map was designed to be used online, in print brochures and as an A1 poster for office display.
